Summer School
District 99 offers Summer School to provide opportunities for students who want to enrich their regular programming. Doing so provides additional flexibility in scheduling courses for the regular school year. Summer School also allows students who need to repeat a course to earn credit for graduation, or to repeat a course to improve understanding and replace a previous grade. (Our summer program option for students with special needs is Extended School Year.)
Registration Dates and Details
- Driver's Education: February 2
- First Semester: February 9
- Second Semester: April 13
Registration for Summer School will take place in Infinite Campus.
About Summer School 2026
2026 LOCATION
Downers Grove North High School
DATES
- Semester 1: June 1-4, 8-11, 15-17
- Semester 2: June 22-25 & 29-30, July 1, 6-9
SCHEDULE
Most classes meet from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the days listed above. (Exceptions are Drivers Ed and AP Chem Prep)
ATTENDANCE
- All students are expected to observe the regular school rules outlined in the district handbook. Regular attendance is mandatory because each class represents a significant portion of the total class time. Vacations, training camps, or competitions are not valid reasons for absences.
- In any course except Drivers Education, if a student is absent for more than 2 days per semester, regardless of the reason, the student will be dropped from the class with no refund of tuition or fees. Additionally, three tardies accumulate to count as one absence.
- For Driver's Education, any absence may result in failure to meet State Driver Education attendance and course requirements.
FINAL EXAMS
Final Exams will be conducted on June 17 and July 9 during the latter half of the day. Final Exams will not be allowed prior to these days.
Fees
All current D99 students, incoming 9th grade students, and students who live outside the D99 district are eligible to enroll, but some classes do have age requirements or prerequisites. Preference is given to students who live in District 99. Summer school is considered high school course work. Grades are included in the student’s overall grade point average and appear on transcripts.
Students who do not attend Downers Grove North or Downers Grove South must confirm with their schools first that the credit they would earn here would transfer. They must contact the District 99 registrar, Kirk Fisher, to have a transcript sent to their schools after completing summer school.

REFUNDS
Students may drop a summer school course and receive course tuition refunds on or before April 10, 2026, for Drivers Education and on or before May 15, 2026, for all other courses. In order to drop a course and be refunded prior to that date, email summerschool@csd99.org or call Ryan Doherty (630-795-7116), Kelly Zuerner (630-795-7119), or Vicky Miles (630-795-7122).
Drivers Education
The program consists of classroom instruction and "behind the wheel" driving with an instructor and runs fluidly through both semesters (details below). The classroom phase will cover basic information on Illinois traffic laws, insurance, the fundamentals of driving, decision-making skills, the impact of alcohol on driving, and basic car maintenance. Actual on-street driving involves driving in a dual-control car, allowing students to experience real-world driving conditions.
- The registration fee for in-district learners is $250, and $670 for out-of-district learners (addresses are verified by staff).
- Class dates:
- Classroom and Behind the Wheel: June 1-4, 8-11, 15-17
- Behind the Wheel Only: June 22-25, 29-30 & July 1, 6-9
- Class Times: 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Class Location: Downers Grove North High School
Note: Students will receive a schedule as we get closer and will not need to attend the entire 8AM-2PM session. However, all enrolled students are expected to be available during that entire time period for scheduling purposes. No exceptions.
Please read all the following information carefully before registering.
Student must be 15 years old by May 1, 2026
- Vacations, camps, etc are NOT allowed. An absence may result in failure to meet State Driver Education guidelines for attendance and of the course. There are no exceptions.
- District 99 residents will be charged $250 to complete the course, and non-residents will be charged $670. All payments will be made online (see below).
- No refunds will be issued after April 10, 2026.
To enroll in the class, your student must have their permit prior to the first day of class. Families will receive an email in March about a mandatory informational meeting for Summer Driver Education. This meeting is mandatory because students begin their permit application on a state-secured website, and they take their vision test. Students finish their application and take their permit test during their resource period in April.
Technically, there is no bus service specifically for Driver Ed students. Regular buses serving summer school arrive prior to the 8 am start, and depart following the 2 pm end of day. However, as noted above, your student may not be required to start at 8 a.m. or stay until 2 p.m., depending on their individual schedule for that day.
Registration Instructions
Registration opens February 2, 2026, at 8:00 AM and is completely online. Please be aware that spots fill up quickly. While we will maintain a waitlist, we cannot guarantee that any additional spots beyond those initially accepted will become available.

What will my students need to bring to summer school?
All students will need their Chromebooks, chargers, and school ID in summer school. Incoming 9th grade students and students outside D99 will be given Chromebook/ID on their first day of school (or we will reach out sooner if there is a sooner pickup date). They should also bring a pen/pencil and folder/notebook.
If they are in a math class and have a graphing calculator, they should bring that.
NOTE: We do our best to keep all rooms cool, so your student should dress in layers and bring a sweatshirt in case it is needed.
Is lunch served?
All students will be given a 30 minute lunch break. Students can choose to bring their own sack lunch or get a cold lunch from the school Cafeteria for $5. Some a la carte options may be available as well for purchase, but we encourage kids to bring their own snacks if they are counting on a specific item. To purchase lunches, you may use cash or your cafeteria account just as you would in the typical school year.
Please note that students CANNOT order in their own lunches or accept deliveries. If students choose to order in food, it will sit at the front desk for the remainder of the school day.
How important is attendance?
Attendance is extremely important. In any course except Drivers Education, if a student misses more than 2 days of school per semester, regardless of the reason, they will need to be withdrawn from summer school and no refund will be issued. Official documentation will not excuse an absence like in regular school year. Each day of summer school is roughly equivalent to an entire week of regular school curriculum. Please plan vacations, sports, camps, etc. outside of the summer school program.
Every tardy (being late to class between 1 minute and 19 minutes) counts. If you receive 3 tardies, that is counted as an absence.
For Drivers Education, any absence may result in failure to meet State Driver Education guidelines for attendance and the course.

Can my student re-take a class if they earned a D but want to get a better grade?
What happens if we decide last minute to no longer take a course?
How will my student know where to report?
On May 29, you will receive an email with information about where to report. If you are not familiar with the building, once you enter a drop off point at the school, administrators and staff will be present to help you get to class. Consider getting dropped off a few minutes early on the first day in order to be sure you are not late!
Can my student choose to attend digitally for a few days?

Is parking available?
I am driving my student. Where do I drop them off?
