English and Communications

Four units of language arts credit are required for graduation, with additional credits available to meet college or career goals, or based on interest. In grades 9-11, students are required to take grade level or honors English. In grade 12, students must elect from a large group of courses, including an Expression course and a Literature course. Alternatively, grade 12 students may choose a year-long course to fulfill both requirements (AP Literature, Humanities, or Journalistic Expression & Media Literacy). In addition to a required English class, students have the opportunity to concurrently enroll in electives offered within the department: journalism, speech, film studies, radio, or television.
