Special Red Ribbon Week Presentation
South is proud to be a part of the 27thAnnual National Red Ribbon Week, a campaign that encourages students to make healthy choices and to abstain from drug and alcohol use. The highlight of this week will be an assembly on Thursday, October 11th with a presentation related to making healthy lifestyle choices. This presentation, STAND UP! Change Teen Statistics, is performed by a group of actors from an organization called R.Ed.I. The actors, ranging in age from 18-25 years, perform skits for students on various topics related to adolescence including alcohol and other drug use, bullying, and social emotional topics related to mental health. This troupe has received numerous awards and positive recognition for their brave attempts at addressing such difficult subject matter. This presentation will provide us with the opportunity to review the supports that are in place for students in the building as well as ways that we can continue to improve our culture here at DGS.
During 2nd or 3rd period on Thursday, October 11, teachers have the option to bring their students to the auditorium for this presentation. Because of size constraints, not all students will be viewing the presentation, but it is available to all parents at 7:00 PM that evening in the DGS Auditorium. We cordially invite you and your student to attend the presentation (which will be identical to the one presented to students during the day). This will be a wonderful opportunity to open the doors of communication with your son or daughter about some of the aforementioned topics.
