South High School’s National Achievement Finalist

South High senior Cater Minnis is a finalist in the 2012 Competition for National Achievement Scholarships, which recognizes outstanding Black American high school students. The academic achievement program is based in part on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Of the approximately 170,000 students who entered the program, about 1,600 were named as semifinalists in September of 2011. As a finalist, Minnis is eligible to receive one of the 800 scholarships, which will be selected in late February.

“Cater is an excellent student and should be proud of advancing in this prestigious competition,” says South High Principal Steve Bild.
