World Languages

The World Language Department offers sequential courses in French, German, and Spanish. The study of a foreign language may be elected to meet college entrance requirements, to enrich a person’s understanding and appreciation of another culture, to broaden a student’s liberal education, to meet career goals, or for travel purposes.

Students who have had foreign language experience prior to entering high school are placed at the appropriate level of high school language based primarily on the recommendation of their eighth grade foreign language teacher.

Honor Societies

Each foreign language has its respective honor society. The purpose of these organizations is to recognize high scholastic attainment in the study of foreign language and to promote interest in the study of language, literature, culture, and civilization.

Tours

The department plans educational tours to foreign lands during spring or summer. Students have the opportunity to visit the land of the language which they are studying once every four years on a rotating schedule.
